The award recognizes a rising Upton High School senior who demonstrates meaningful service, strong character, and the potential to lead a community-focused project.

Award disclaimer: The Selection Committee reserves the right not to present an award in any year if applicants do not meet the standards established for the Melvin & Janice Douglas Family Community Service & Leadership Award.

Total Award Value = $5,500

The recipient will receive:

  • ·$4,500 award upon selection as the annual recipient

  • $500 Senior Legacy Project Grant to support the planning and implementation of a community service initiative during the recipient’s senior year and work with other students to encourage participation

  • $500 completion award upon successful completion of the legacy project and submission of final project summary

The selected student receives both financial recognition and the opportunity to lead a Senior Legacy Project.

During senior year, the recipient is encouraged to work with a community partner to plan and complete a project that responds to a clearly identified local need. The project is designed to give the recipient practical experience in leadership, budgeting, communication and community collaboration.
