The strongest applicants demonstrate a genuine commitment to serving others, initiative and leadership, integrity and responsibility, meaningful community impact, thoughtful reflection on their experiences, and a desire to continue making a positive difference through the Senior Service Legacy Project

Provide a summary of your community service and leadership experiences. For each activity, include:

  • Organization, group, or individuals served

  • Your role and responsibilities

  • Approximate dates of involvement and hours served

  • Your personal contributions

  • Leadership roles, if applicable

  • Awards, recognition, or notable accomplishments (optional)

The committee values the quality and impact of your service more than the total number of hours.

Essay


Your essay should help the selection committee understand your commitment to service, leadership, and your vision for making a difference.

Please address the following:

  • Describe your most meaningful community service experience and explain why it was significant to you.

  • Reflect on the service experience that has had the greatest impact on your personal growth.

  • Describe a time when you recognized a need, solved a problem, or took initiative without being asked.

  • Explain how your service has positively impacted an individual, an organization, or the Upton community.

  • Describe the type of Legacy Project you would like to lead during your senior year and why it is important to you.

  • Share what community service and leadership mean to you and how you hope to continue serving others beyond high school.

Two Letters of
Recommendation


Submit two letters of recommendation from adults who can speak to your character, leadership, and commitment to community service.

Examples include:

  • Teacher

  • Coach

  • Employer

  • Volunteer supervisor

  • Community leader

  • Church leader

  • Organization director

Letters should describe the applicant's:

  • Character and integrity

  • Reliability and work ethic

  • Leadership potential

  • Community involvement

  • Positive impact on others

Letters from immediate family members will not be accepted.

Materials


Applicants are encouraged to include additional materials that demonstrate their service, leadership, or community involvement.

Examples include:

  • Photographs of service activities

  • News articles or media coverage

  • Certificates or awards

  • Project summaries

  • Event programs

  • Letters of appreciation

  • Additional documentation that highlights community impact

Supporting materials should complement, not replace the required application materials.
